The Top 5 Biggest Moments In the World Series

The World Series

The world series has been filled with dynasties, dominations, and devastations throughout the years, but it hardly stops us from looking at MLB odds and placing our bets. Nothing will stop us from loving it, but how do you choose the best moments?

There have been so many epic moments in the World Series, it is nearly impossible to pick the best ones. There have been walk-off home runs, dropped pop-ups, everyone on the edge of their seat in anticipation.

As we anticipate the next World Series Champion, let’s look at the biggest moments in the history of the World Series, and remember the epic times, we will never forget.

Top 5 Moments.

Deciding the top five is hard, there have been so many good ones, and we are sure you have your own opinion on what moments really stole your heart, had you on the edge of your seat, and have stuck in your mind all these years.

These are the top 5 we have selected.

#1. Pirates Vs Yankees 1960

Back in 1960, we saw a high-scoring finale between the Pirates and Yankees. The Pirate scored five runs in the eight inning and looked to have a 2 point lead over the Yankees.

They lost it in the top ninth when two Yankees scored.

By the bottom of the ninth, the score was all tied up, and the second baseman Mazeroski stepped up, and swatted Terry’s ball over the left-field wall. This gave the Pirates a victory of 10-9.

This way the first ever series-winning home run in MLB history!

#2. Blue Jays Vs Phillies 1993.

The Jays were winning 3-2 in the series, however in Game 6 they were down 6-5. The Phillies closer took the mound to try and force a game 7th.

However, Carter came to the plate, and he worked the count to 2-2 before he fired one over the left-field wall.

This won the game and gave Toronto their second World Series.

In Fact, this was the second ever time that a World Series ended in a home run.

#3. Dodgers Vs A’s 1988.

Gibson was injured, however he entered the game to pinch-hit in the bottom of the ninth. When the Dodgers were down 4-3, Eckersley was as good as they were going to get.

He got two quick outs before he put a tying run on base. Enter Gibson, hampered by his knees. He flailed a couple of pitches, fouling them, but then made a full count.

This is when he got that pitch he wanted, the backdoor slider. He sent it right-field and into the bleachers for a walk-off win.

He didn’t play for the best of the series, but the Dodgers won five games. Sometimes all it takes is one golden pitch it would seem.

#4. Yankees Vs Dodgers 1977.

The Yankees were leading the series by 3-2. Infamous Reggie Jackson came into the game hot as fire, having hit a home run in his last two games.

He walked in hot-to-trot, and homered in his second, third, and fourth.

The only other player to do something as epic as this was Babe Ruth, and the five total Series home runs also matched the record of…. Babe Ruth. Which said something for Jackson for sure.

It is no surprise that Jackson took home an MVP honors and gained the name ‘Mr. October; as the Yankees won their first ever World Series title since 1962.

This was quite the epic feat and put Jackson’s name in the sporting history books. You do not even need to be an MLB fan to know his name after this.

#5. Reds Vs Red Sox 1975.

Only two years before the epic feat of Reggie Jackson, many titled the 1975 Game 6 as the greatest game in the history of baseball. This game saw the Red Sox on the edge of being eliminated. They were down 3-2 in the series, and trailed a poor 6-3 by the bottom of the eight. However, Carbo came in to pinch-hit and sent a ball over the wall, tying the game.

The score was tied still in the 12th inning, and Fisk came to the plate to face Darcy.

Fisk lined to second pitch he saw down the left-field.

It looked like it could drift into a foul, so what did he do? He waved his arms towards fair territory, and it worked! How on earth?

The ball stayed fair and the Red Sox won!
