Running Diary of All Star Game 2011

One of my favorite things to do is a running diary of a given event. It allows me to share all my thoughts, whether worthwhile or not and whether eloquent or not.  I’ve decided to go with Military Time to chronicle my comments as a shout out to the military and to avoid excessive use of the : I mean look at it. What the heck is it doing there in the middle of that sentence? Oh, I’m the author. Anway,

1810, Set out to start this blog.  I like WordPress. Its easy to use.

1811, Turn on ESPN to see John Kruk and Bobby Valentine blasting Derek Jeter for not being at the All Star Game.  I really don’t care if he’s there or not.  We’ve celebrated his excellence enough this past week and as Barry Larkin said on the same stage, “Let’s celebrate the players who are here.”  There’s plenty of future Hall of Famers (David Robertson, Matt Joyce, Jose Valverde, Ryan Vogelsong) in this game (smile).

1815, The Timberwolves fired their coach Kurt Rambis who was 32-132 in his tenure. That’s good for a 19% winning percentage.  Why was he fired?

1823, Taco Bell and Krogers… results in Heaven.

1843, Hope Solo play by play of the penalty kicks.  What an inspiring game! Additionally, Hope Solo makes these games worth watching even if you don’t know the rules of the game.  Solo is a beautiful lady.

1846, Fun peace by John Kruk on the best seat in the house to give you a nice view of Chase Field.  He says the best seat is in the hot tub.

1852, I pop in my new PS3 game.  NBA LIVE 08 with Gilbert Arenas on the cover!  Is there a possible Madden curse for NBA LIVE games? I’ll look it up after my game.

1912, I won 27-25.  Team USA defeated China.  LeBron almost blew it in the fourth with three consecutive turnovers.

1922, The past NBA Live covers have been Steve Francis, Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, and Tracy McGrady.  It’s pretty obvious the rapid career decline that immediately follows NBA Live cover boy.  Interesting.

1926, Your picture of Hope Solo….

1934, All Star Fact No. 1 for the night.  Since 1998 only one player has played the whole game- Carlos Beltran in 2006.  Willie Mays did it 11 times.

1941, Over under on when the game starts is 2037 (8:37)  I’m taking the over.

1942, Tip of the Hat, Wag of the Finger from Steven Colbert.  Does anyone know what he means by this or is that the point? Tip of the Hat goes to John Lennon for being a “closet conservative.”  Wag of the Finger goes to “Badoo for voting Germany the least funny country in the world.”  Thanks Steven.

2044, I missed out on some action because the internet went out.  But Brian Wilson just introduced the lineup and it was awesome!

2045, Why is Carlos Beltran the DH? He’s hitting .285 and the NL can certainly come up with a better No. 2.  Hey, he strikes out.

2047, They just showed Lincecum.  Stoned out of his mind.

2052, Which two MLB franchises have never hosted an All Star Game?  Florida Marlins and Tampa Bay is my pick

2053, Adrian Beltre is second in the AL in RBI.  Who knew?  Does he know its not a contract year?

2100, Brian McCann hits a ball deep to right. Get out ball!!! It’s going! It’s well short- not the HR Derby.  And Bautista makes a great sliding catch… He’s too good.

2105, Anybody notice that when Lance Berkman just slid, it looked like he was on a Slip n Slide?  He didn’t even try to grab the bag.

2109, Buddy says “It ain’t a beer unless you throw it.” Makes perfect sense if you think about it.

2113, 2.5 innings into the game and we have seen one hit.  Good pitching beats good hitting?

2121, its 2121, make a wish

2126, As a Braves fan I like seeing Cliff Lee back out there for a second inning.  Some serious pitching advantage for the Braves to see those guys wasting pitches in the All Star Game

2126, Adrian Gonzalez goes deep! Same beautiful swing from last night’s derby AL up 1-0

2129, Cliff Lee is not very good and its very exciting to see him leave the game early.  Its got to be humiliating to be taken out in the middle of an inning.  Go home Cliff Lee!

2122, Hot damn thats a good throw by Hunter Pence.

2141, Prince Fielder is a very very strong man.  He killed a baseball thrown by CJ Wilson 420 feet to the opposite field.  Wilson’s clearly shook up.   I wonder how much Fielder will get this offseason.

2144, Joe Buck and Tim McGarver bring as much energy to a broadcast as my pet snail when its taking a nap.  How far does Joe Buck’s dad carry him in this whole broadcasting profession?  If its an All Star game, shouldn’t we have All Star Broadcasters too?  Managers, hitters, pitchers. Broadcasters.
