Early Season Surprises In The Baseball Season So Far

It’s easy to catch the timing – especially with the excitement of having an entire season this year after the 2020 crash, but there is still a lot of season left to play; we just cannot take these early season observations too personal. We have yet to see any team play 20 games. A team like the Royals could win nine out of 14 games from fourth place in the middle of the summer, and we barely kept an eye on it, but burst out of the gate 9-5 and all of a sudden, we are singing their praises. Illinois sports betting is all the fun right now, but not because of the Cubs or Bulls, New York is a mess, but hey, let’s all calm down and enjoy the season so far for the fun it is.

Although it is true that the Royals look like an «over» team this year, I am only using them as a means here to illustrate a pattern, based on what little action we have seen this so far. Looking at the rankings right now, compared to how the general public sees teams participating in the year, it looks rather messy in some cases. Take a look at some of these surprises, with the exception of the very interesting Royals so far.

Red Sox: The most popular position in predictions for the Red Sox comes fourth in East AL, just behind the fearsome Orioles. Red Sox took a 10-4 lead before beating a double on Sunday and looked at the opponent’s share bit by bit.

The Blue Jays: The emerging Blue Jays are expected to push the Yankees to the top of AL East. Instead, the Jays lost every non-Yankees series, including a series defeat to Rangers.

Twins: Since starting 5-2, Twins have lost six out of seven and almost blew a win in that interval. The two-time defending champion AL Central is now deactivated because of the COVID issue.

Mariners: If you’ve been searching pretty much anywhere on the internet pre-season for predictions, you’ll find Mariners are already fourth or fifth at AL West. And yet, they are the second AL team with 10 wins and take first place.

Braves: Arguably the biggest challenger to the Dodgers for NL supremacy during the season, the Braves have spent more time in the last place than any other position. Having started off with four consecutive defeats, it looked like they had regained their spirits with a four-match win streak, but they have been an under .500 since then.

Rockies: Just kidding. We know they’ll be awful.

Yankees: How about this? The worst record in the American League belongs to the Yankees; the team most fancied to win the AL flag of the season. The Rays completely own them, and they just look broken right now. One thing to note: Last year, the Yankees had a stretch where they lost 15 in 20 and then immediately strung together a 10-game winning streak. Maybe it’s right around the corner? It’s hard to believe watching them play right now, but it is possible.
