2021 MLB Draft Prep – Top 10 High School Pitchers

The 2021 MLB Draft is taking place a little later in the calendar year than usual due to COVID impacts on… life. It’s unclear what COVID and the pause in development means for prospects both in and out of professional baseball, but everyone is facing the same unprecedented obstacles. The Draft is slated for July 11th with these should be the first high school pitchers taken.

#1 Jackson Jobe, RHP, HS- Oklahoma

4-pitch Mix: FB T96, ++SL, +CH, CB

The consensus #1 high school pitcher in this year’s draft class thanks to one of the best arsenals in this year’s draft class. Jobe is still somewhat new to pitching as he was a 2-way talent that was viewed as a very talented shortstop. He does a good job throwing strikes and an even better job spinning the ball and has a chance for 3 plus or better pitches. He has a chance to develop into a front of the rotation starter. He’s a Mississippi State commit.

#2 Andrew Painter, RHP, HS- Florida

4-pitch Mix: FB T96, +CH, CB, SL

Painter is considered to be one of the best prep pitchers in this year’s draft class. He has good feel for all 4 of his pitches which all have a chance to be above average or  better. He has a good feel for the strike zone with the chance for plus control and command and still offers plenty of projection on top of his 96 mph fastball.  Florida commit.

#3 Bubba Chandler, RHP/SS, HS- Georgia

4-pitch Mix: FB T97, +CB, CH, SL

Chandler is considered to be one of the best athletes in this year’s draft class. He’s a 3 sport athlete that has earned a scholarship to Clemson for both Baseball and Football. Chandler also offers value as a shortstop that can switch hit but is more toolsy and raw offering plenty of upside when his primary focus is baseball. Clemson commit. Bats: S

#4 Chase Petty, RHP, HS- New Jersey

3-pitch Mix: FB T102, +SL, CH

Petty is the hardest throwing prep righthander and he also has a chance to develop a plus or better slider. He has risks as there’s effort to his delivery and he at times struggles with control. He’s a high-risk, high-reward type player. Florida commit.

#5 Anthony Solometo, LHP, HS- New Jersey

3-pitch Mix: FB T96, +SL, CH

Solometo is considered to be the best prep left handed pitcher in this year’s draft class. He has a funky delivery, but does a good job of throwing strikes with a chance to have 3 above average or better pitches, giving him a good chance to develop into a starting pitcher. North Carolina commit.

#6 Frank Mozzicato, LHP, HS- Connecticut

3-pitch Mix: FB T93, +CB, CH

Mozzicato is the definition of a pop up player. This spring he made a name for himself throwing 4 no-hitters and showing impressive stuff for a player that’s one of the youngest in this year’s draft class. He has one of the best curveballs among all prep pitchers and a good feel for the strike zone. Connecticut commit.

#7 Chase Burns, RHP, HS- Tennessee

3-pitch Mix: FB T100, +SL, CB, CH

Burns throws 100 and he has the chance for a plus slider. That combination alone is a good starting point. If the changeup develops at all, he could develop into a starting pitcher. He is among the best prep righthanders in the draft. Tennessee commit.

2ND ROUND

#8 Ben Kudrna, RHP, HS- Kansas

3-pitch Mix: FB T97, +SL, CH

Kudrna is the top prep arm in the upper Midwest. He is an excellent strike thrower with a good feel for the zone. He offers plenty of projection in his frame and has the chance to develop into a mid-rotation starter. LSU commit.

#9 Maddux Bruns, LHP, HS- Alabama

4-pitch Mix: FB T98, +SL, +CB, +CH

Bruns might have the best repertoire of pitches in the MLB draft. Almost all of his pitches flashed plus at the Perfect Game National Showcase, but he struggled to find the strike zone consistently last summer. He’s improved as a strikethrower this spring. Mississippi State recruit.

#10 Josh Hartle, LHP,  HS- North Carolina

3-pitch Mix: FB T94, SL, CH

Hartle is considered to be one of the best prep left handed pitchers in this year’s draft class. He has a tall (6’5″), projectable frame and flashes plus command with the chance for 3 above average or better pitches. Wake Forest commit.
