The Sure Thing, The Longshot and the One to Avoid: World Series Betting Odds

We are well and truly into the meaty end of the regular season and the action is heating up all across the AL and NL and the futures betting action is starting to kick into gear.

The season has been intriguing thus far, with some surprises and some less unpredictable action. The season started with the L.A Dodgers in prime position to clinch World Series glory and they remain the team to beat. The Astros have put in a solid run of form that has taken them from relative outsiders to second favorites.

With 50+ games still to play there is a long way to go and you can expect a great deal of fluctuation in the MLB betting odds between now and a possible game seven of the World Series on November 3rd. In a 162-game season, and a return to normalcy following last season’s truncated regular season, you’ll need to keep on top of the odds comparisons to make sure that you stay with the most competitively placed sportsbook.

The Sure Thing

L.A Dodgers (+380)

The Dodgers are massive favorites to pull off back to back World Series victories, the first team to do so since the Yankees at the end of the last century. Dave Roberts’ side has great strength in depth and they look red hot certainties to go all the way and as such their odds are a mile ahead of the pack, with good reason.

Picking up Max Scherzer and Trea Turner before the trade deadline only adds fuel to the World Series winning fire. It may well be on the Dodgers to spectacularly implode in order for any other team to take their title from them.

The Longshot

Oakland Athletics (+2000)

The A’s sit just three games back from the AL West leaders, the Houston Astros, and the odds available are very tempting indeed. Last Fall, they lost out to the Astros in the Division series and revenge may come sooner than they have hoped. Yes, they will be affected by the 80-game suspension handed to outfielder Ramon Laureano but not enough for it to affect our prediction that they could go long into the postseason.

It’s been over 30 years since the Athletics last tasted World Series glory but the winds of change are definitely in the air. Chris Bassitt is having a great time of it this season and could have it in him to pitch the A’s in the right direction.

The One to Avoid

New York Yankees (+2500)

A very disappointing season for the Yankees isn’t likely to get any better and that’s resulted in their World Series futures odds plummeting like a rock. A hideous June has been followed by slightly better fortunes but there’s not enough of an upturn around the corner, so avoid backing Aaron Boone’s side. They’ve dropped down the pecking order and even the trades for Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo haven’t stopped the rot.
